Bangkok, October 28, 2021 – dzcard, the leading secured smart card solution and digital security provider in South-East Asia, has cleverly blunted the threat of chip shortage that has globally crippled the smart card producers during the past two years. Despite the global chip supply crunch, dzcard has maintained a sufficient level of production volumes and plans to further reinforce capacity to meet unprecedented demand.
The ongoing global shortage affecting semiconductor foundries is getting so bad that smart card manufacturers have had to review their delivery plans and allocate production quantities to specific customers.
The problem has its roots in an increasingly tense market situation. The covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the semiconductor industry and brutally exposed a decade of underinvestment. Business activity rebounds amid renewed growth, surging price of raw materials, and environmental constraints compound the bottleneck leading to hiked chip prices.
As the currently highly volatile supply situation continues, dzcard is focusing on minimising the impact of the global semiconductor shortage that is causing significant disruption in global smart card manufacturing.
“Our capacity to maintain sufficient chip supply and the fact that we did not cut our production were strong drivers of customer loyalty,” said Renaud Adam, CEO of dzcard Group. “But this industrywide shortage of chips is sending prices higher and means extra costs for our customers. Since we are trying to mitigate the effect of the supply crunch, the lack of chip availability has not yet translated into excessive increases in card prices up till now.”
“In this continuously volatile market, we believe that the chip shortage is set to continue through 2022 and will cause significant supply constraints. To tackle this ongoing shortage of chips, the main priority is to continue to build a stronger dialogue with the semiconductor suppliers,” commented Renaud Adam, CEO of dzcard Group. “By securing chips supplies and maintaining direct relationships with manufacturers, we aim at continuing our successful development to become a leading provider of sustainable digital security for our customers in Asia and Africa.”
